Apex Heart Hospital, Thanjavur has created history by successfully performing the first heart transplant surgery in the Delta region.

Speaking about this achievement, the Managing Directors of Apex Heart Hospital, Dr. S. Sivasankar and Dr. S. Ravishankar, said that a 51-year-old patient, Mr. Balraj, underwent a heart transplant surgery at Apex Heart Hospital today. He had been suffering from heart disease for several years and had previously undergone stent procedures in 2012 and 2019. Despite continuing his life with the support of medications, his heart condition gradually worsened. Due to the severe weakening of his heart, he was advised to undergo a heart transplant and chose Apex Heart Hospital, Thanjavur for the procedure.

A young man from Madurai met with a road accident three days ago and was declared brain-dead. As his heart was found to be a suitable match for Mr. Balraj, it was donated. The donated heart was safely transported and successfully transplanted into Mr. Balraj at Apex Heart Hospital today.

The heart transplant surgery was performed by the Apex Heart Hospital team comprising Dr. S. Sivasankar, Dr. S. Ravishankar, Dr. Ashik, Ms. Jayalakshmi, Mr. Sathyanandhan, Mr. Vignesh, Mr. Amit, Ms. Ashwanthika, Mr. Alex, Mr. Sundar, Mr. Balaji, Mr. Anand, and Mr. Ajith, along with the support of the RELA Hospital team led by Dr. Srinath, including Dr. Senthilkumar, Dr. Jebin, Dr. Gunalan, Mr. Boopathy, and Mr. Karthik.

They further stated that the complete cooperation of the TRANSTAN organization, along with the support of the police patrol teams who ensured the heart was transported safely and swiftly from Madurai to Thanjavur, especially the commendable efforts of the Thanjavur Traffic Police, played a vital role in the success of this heart transplant surgery.
