Apex Heart Hospital in Thanjavur has been celebrated for securing the first prize under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHISTN) for its outstanding performance among hospitals in the Delta districts. The recognition, awarded on January 31, 2025, underscores the hospital’s excellence in delivering quality healthcare. This follows another accolade where Apex was honored as the Best Hospital in Thanjavur by Thanjavur Collector Priyanka Pankajam during a ceremony at the Collectorate.

At the event, Collector Priyanka Pankajam presented a certificate and trophy to Apex Heart Hospital’s representatives, Dr. Ravishankar MD DM and Dr. Sivasankar MS Mch, in the presence of Dr. Balajinathan, Dean of Thanjavur Medical College Hospital (TMCH), and the Joint Director of Health Services. The ceremony, held at the Collector’s office with the Tamil Nadu emblem and National Health Agency logo in the backdrop, was attended by dignitaries and hospital staff, marking a proud moment for the institution.

He recalled their groundbreaking achievement on April 8, 2016, when they performed the first cardiac intervention—a pacemaker implant—at Thanjavur Medical College, even before a cath lab was installed.

The District Insurance Team elaborated on why Apex was chosen as the No. 1 hospital. They praised Apex as the most reliable center for round-the-clock angioplasty, achieving a 97% success rate and an unmatched average door-to-balloon (D2B) time of 23 minutes—the best in the Delta districts and among the best globally, as verified by their vigilance team. This positions Apex as the top hospital not just in Thanjavur or the Delta districts but across Tamil Nadu for heart attack treatment. The team also highlighted Apex’s highest volume of bypass surgeries in the Delta districts last year, its status as the only center approved by Transtan for heart and lung transplants in the district due to its robust heart failure infrastructure, and its leadership in laser angioplasty and ECMO procedures. Additionally, Apex boasts advanced technology with IVUS, OCT, two cath labs, and plans for an advanced biplane cath lab, alongside the highest volume of cardiac electrophysiological ablations in the region. Their collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London, to perform complex pediatric cardiac surgeries further solidifies their standing.

The team emphasized that Apex’s consistent excellence in heart attack management, heart failure, arrhythmology, bypass surgeries, angioplasties, pediatric cardiac surgeries, and ECMO provided compelling evidence for their selection for the top prize.
